A Certain Vision

Europe has been through a lot. Empire, war, collapse, and rebuilding. Most of what gets written about Europe today is about what's wrong, or what we should be against. That matters, but it isn't enough on its own.

This section says clearly what we actually want Europe to become next.

It's built around seven ideas. We call them the seven stars. Each one stands on its own, but they only really make sense as a set, the way stars only make a shape when you see them together.

One thing holds several of these ideas together: a method we call the tapestry. Some things need to be unified at the European level. Other things work best decided close to home, by the people who actually live with the consequences. Those two instincts can pull in opposite directions. The tapestry is how you get both at once: one pattern, woven from many threads, each thread keeping its own color. From a distance it looks like one Europe. Up close, every nation and every region is still exactly itself.
