We trust our institutions because they answer to us, not because they've always existed.

An institution earns trust the same way a person does: by being accountable, by performing, by being honest when it fails. It doesn't get trust automatically just because it's old, or big, or European.

When an institution stops earning that trust, we should be able to say so plainly, and expect it to change. Loyalty to an institution should never mean pretending it's beyond question.
